Lethal jelly mini cups?

June 27, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On June, 21st, a newspaper report entitled: “Health: jelly mini cups are prohibited since 2003” was published. However, Corporación del Valle Metropolitano, S.A., assured none of their products contain Konjac, the additive that has been forbidden. The corporation had to explain this because the article included an image of its jelly mini cups. Publishers have already removed the picture.

Eugenio Vargas, the corporation’s lawyer, assured that products from the company don’t contain any prohibited substance.

Last week, a child died after choking on a jelly mini cup. In response, the National Children’s Hospital (HNN), warned about the risks these candies represent for younger children. The Ministry of Health proposes to include label recommendations on the product in order to avoid further accidents.
