10 pregnant women with Zika

July 13, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The number of pregnant women with Zika continues to rise. In less than a week the number increased from six to ten cases, in Carrillo, Guanacaste.

Rodrigo Marín, National Coordinator of Vectors, said that two women with Zika were unaware of their pregnancies and two other were added to the list last Thursday, causing the increase in cases.

The doctor did not specify the ages of the mothers, but their 12-to-19-week pregnancies are considered as high-risk ones, because there is a 14% chance that their babies are born with microcephaly.

In the next 10 days the Health Ministry will deliver packages with repellents and canopies for beds to pregnant women from the most affected areas.

In total, 29,000 kits will be delivered, for which ¢ 160 million were invested.
