OVSICORI: After quake aftershocks aren’t ruled out

A local seismic fault caused the earthquake felt in the entire country, but mainly in the Central Valley.

The main event was reported at 10:06 am, with magnitude 4.7 degrees and had a depth of 20 kilometers.

It was reported at 7 kilometers west of San Marcos de Tarrazú.

Floribeth Vega, from the Vulcanological and Seismological Observatory of the National University (OVSICORI) said that people from San Carlos, Pérez Zeledón and other sectors reported on the event.

The quake was followed by an aftershock, a few minutes later with a magnitude of 2.5 degrees.

Vega said that the expected aftershocks won’t be as strong as the main shock.

Over time it tends to decrease in quantity and magnitude”

said the official.

Another earth tremor with a magnitude of 4.6 was felt at 10:22 a.m. 7.7 kilometers northwest of Laurel, Corredores.
