The Drug Control Police (PCD) found more than 200,000 marijuana plants camouflaged among rice and taro (tiquisque) paddies in the southern area of the country.

The agents were investigating the 26 plantations covering 21 thousand 493 square meters for 10 days, and 215, 833 plants were found and destroyed.

In addition, the agents also found three camps where there were lots of dried marijuana, drug ready to be packed for sale, said Gustavo Mata, Minister of Security.

Each marijuana plant translates into hundreds of cigarettes that affect the health of our young people, so, destroying them is essential to contribute to public health and generate increasingly healthy and safe spaces,”

The plants were found in places like Santa Rosa, Cerro Danta, Coquito Row, San Martin, Balsar, Cajón, San Rafael de Tinoco and Sinaí Osa in Puntarenas.
