Uber drivers say the company blocked them

September 2, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Drivers who subscribed their vehicles to be part of the company Uber, ensure that the company blocked the app for them and therefore could not continue to provide the service.

A driver that provides service between Cartago and San José (who asked to remain anonymous), said that since last Monday the app does not work for him, and when he went to Uber’s branches in the country for answers, he was told he had broken one of the clauses of the contract.

What they argue (Uber), is that we are looking for customers and we are arranging to pick them up, which is not true. For example, on Monday I was in Montelimar having lunch and when I finished, I turned on the application and there was one person less than 1 minute away, they were in front of me requesting the service,”

said the driver.

After that the application was blocked. He does recognize, however, that some customers asked for his number because they were satisfied with the service.

The problem is that we have nowhere to turn, because we work with an illegal app, nobody regulates us, but they are doing with us what they please,”

added the driver, who is desperate, because Uber said it would take between 48 and 72 hours to give an answer following the “investigation”.

The same thing happened to another driver, who joined the company three months ago and decided to buy a vehicle specifically for that activity, but claims never to have arranged a pick-up with a customer.

This driver did not get any details as to why they cannot continue working and says there are several drivers with the same issue.

Julie Robinson, from Uber’s communication department said that

there is an ongoing investigation on the case, so we cannot provide statements until it is completed.”
