September 14, 2016 by Staff News Writer

President of the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) Luis Antonio Sobrado explained to the legislators why the institution requested a 49-billion-colones budget for 2017.

He stated that it should cover the beginning of the 2018 electoral process’ organization.

In addition, 15% of the budget (7 billion colones) has to be transferred to the political parties as State contribution, 6% of it aims to cover its expenses for the electoral process and 5.5% to finance the referendum of the law against animal abuse.

According to Sobrado, they are also working on a 2017 pilot plan for an online births’ registration system. Furthermore, 530 million colones will be used to pay the rent of a building that will protect all the citizens’ information.

The Committee on Financial Affairs is studying the draft of the 9-billion colones budget that the Executive presented to the Congress. It must be voted  before November 30th.
