The Guillain Barré syndrome is a serious disease that take place when the body’s defense system attacks part of the nervous system. Its symptoms are associated with weakness in the arms and legs and, in severe cases, it can affect the muscles that control breathing.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), these symptoms may last several weeks or several months.

If 10 days after a Zika infection, the person feels tingling and numbness that starts in the toes and goes up the body, the person should go to the a doctor to discard the syndrome.

This is the second case of Guillain Barré syndrome associated with the virus that has been confirmed in the country. The first occurred in early August and was detected in the area of Jacó.
