The Ministry of Health confirmed a further increase of Zika cases.
According to the report, the disease already has 708 victims in Costa Rica (including the baby that was born with microcephaly in San Carlos Hospital). However, 32 of these people got the virus abroad.
Espíritu Santo in Esparza stands out among the districts with the highest number of new confirmed cases in the last three weeks.
So far, 658,286 potential breeding sites have been eliminated, and over a million were treated in more than 464,000 Costa Rican homes.
Although cases are increasing, the authorities have dismissed 1,310 cases nationwide.
Zika is one of the 3 viruses associated with the Aedes mosquito’s family, characterized with symptoms of fever, rash, joint pain, conjunctivitis (red eyes), muscle pain and headaches.
In addition, the virus is associated with serious consequences such as the development of microcephaly in infants and Guillain-Barre syndrome in adults.
