Works from the Prado Museum will be exhibited in Chinatown

October 11, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A selection of photographic reproductions of the main works of Prado Museum, in Spain, will be exhibited in Chinatown, in the heart of San José, from next October 21st.

The Museo Nacional del Prado, the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID) and the Municipality of San José indicated that they will see a total of 54 works by artists such as Velázquez, Goya, Caravaggio, Botticelli, Rafael, Tiziano, El Bosco, Rubens, Anton van Dyck and Rembrandt.

The exhibition, called “El Museo del Prado in Chepe”, aims to offer its visitors an educational, engaging experience with which to approach the rich collection found in Spain.

The project of this exhibition began in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 2011, but in 2015 the organizers decided to pick up in Central America, where Costa Rica will be the last country to receive it.

Participants can take guided tours according to the organization of the works for each of their schools (Spanish, Italian and Flemish).

According to organizers, the project becomes a platform for citizen participation, and various complementary activities will also be carried out, including lectures, workshops and forums.

The exhibition has become a bridge to establish links with other institutions that have joined the project, such as universities, museums and art schools.
