Costa Rican Construction Company among the top 20 in the region

October 11, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Costa Rican company Constructora Meco ranks 18 of the 50 largest construction companies in the Latin American region.

The ranking is based on gross sales revenue and is supplemented by data available in stock markets and superintendents, audited accounts, corporate statements and respected expert organizations in the field.

Meco is the only Costa Rican construction in the ranking with revenue of nearly $ 500 million between 2015 and 2016.

The company is consolidated in 4 countries (Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama and Colombia) and employs 6,300 people in its operations. It specializes in large infrastructure projects such as airports, roads, bridges, water treatment plants, sanitary sewers, aqueducts, road maintenance projects, universities, technology institutes and schools, among others.

The ranking highlighted other major construction companies in the world, such as Constructora Norberto Odebrecht (Brazil), Group Grana y Montero (Peru) and Sidgo Koppers (Chile).

Last June, Constructora Meca delivered $ 432 million in works for the Panama Canal expansion. Since 1996, the company participates in multiple expansion works in the Canal, and in 2008 the Panama Canal Authority awarded it with 3 of the most important works of enlargement: PAC3, PAC4 and Borinquén Dam.

In addition, the construction company is currently working in the access to Moín’s Terminal Container in Costa Rica; Gran Manglar Viaduct, the Pacific 3 Connection Highway and the project Honda-Puerto Salgar-Girardot in Colombia; the 72-kilometer road linking the area of Bluefields and San Francisco with Managua to the new National Baseball Stadium in Nicaragua.
