Online births registration fosters greater control and efficiency

October 24, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Nine out of 11 public hospitals have been working with the Online Births Reporting System from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) for 5 months now. Since then, 5,904 children have been registered a few hours after birth.

By the end of 2016 the Hospital of Women Adolfo Carit and Monsignor Sanabria will join.

Health centers where the service is provided and are: Calderón Guardia, Mexico, San Vincente de Paúl, Tony Facio, San Rafael, Max Peralta, Enrique Baltodano, La Anexión and San Juan de Dios.

Other hospitals will join in the third stage in 2017, such as Manuel Mora, San Francisco de Asís, Tomas Casas Casajús, Fernando Escalante Pradilla, Max Terán Valls, Carlos Luis Valverde Vega and William Allen Taylor, as well as in Los Chiles, Guápiles and San Carlos.

The system is simple: with a laptop on which you access an online form, the notary auxiliary from the TSE submits information from the mother, the father, the newborn and the witnesses, if needed, as well as the signatures of the respondents.

The computer is connected to the TSE to validate the information in the database of the Civil Registry.

If the data provided does not meet the requirements, the case is sent to the Registration section of the Civil Registry for study. Usually, this happens when one parent is a foreigner.

In line with the zero paper policy adopted by the TSE, people can now use this online registration and the form for the Law of Responsible Fatherhood, as well as the form for the Digital Certificates (CDI), which can be ordered through the TSE page to receive them by email.
