A drug-trafficking gang was dismantled

March 3, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) arrested 9 people linked to a drug trafficking gang that carried drugs from Colombia, stored them in Costa Rica and shipped them to Europe and the United States.

The 11 raids were carried out in Pérez Zeledón, La Uruca, Alajuela and Quepos, thanks to an investigation that started in January 2016.

According to Wálter Espinoza, director of the OIJ, they managed to destroy this network, since 11 people had already been arrested.

In addition, a financial investigation is being conducted, since the gang could be involved in other types of crimes.

Among the detainees there is an OIJ agent, surnamed Alemán, who provided information to the gang and gave advices on criminal activities.
