An expensive joke: a man will have to pay 51,300 dollars for telling there was a bomb in a plane

November 7, 2016 by Staff News Writer

An Indian citizen, who threw a false bomb alert at the international airport of Geneva, will pay 51,300 dollars to the police to offset the costs of his joke.

The police will send the fine to the 39-year-old man who lives in Montreux, on the shores of Leman Lake. His identity has not been revealed.

On October 13th, the man told an employee of Aeroflot in Geneva that there was a bomb on the plane that was heading to Moscow. From the Russian capital, it should have continued its journey to India.

The police had to mobilize 101 police and security assistants to check the device and the area.

The Indian citizen was arrested the same day of his false bomb alert and sentenced to six months in jail.
