The rescue of a small sloth that survived the high tide in the South Zone, caused by the influence of cold front, echoed beyond Costa Rican borders.

Dirk Morgan, owner of Morgan’s Jungle Lodge in Puerto Jiménez de Osa, saved the animal’s life. According to Morgan, he and an American from Ohio found the 2-toed sloth clinging to a rock on the beach after the high tide that occurred between Sunday and Monday.

Lucky day for this little boy we met on the beach this morning (Monday) before anything caught up with him. He is a young male sloth that survived the high tide. We cleaned the salt water from his face and he was taken to the animal rescue center. It seemed to be fine and happy to be dried in a safe state,”

reported Morgan through a post on the establishment’s Facebook site.

Morgan’s action became news for Fox News in the United States. In the interview, the foreigner said he did not know where the animal came from.

If we didn’t rescue it, the sloth would have succumbed to the afternoon sun. [Or] The nearby dogs would have eaten him,”

said the man in the interview.

Morgan and his family have been operating that rescue center in the south of the country for several years.
