Arab Emirates to donate $10 million, which will not go to the National Budget

January 24, 2017 by Staff News Writer

President Luis Guillermo Solís explained that Costa Rica will receive a non-refundable cooperation in the amount of $10 million. The money will be used to repair aqueducts of the communities that were impacted by Hurricane Otto. That is one of the results of the official presidential tour to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Foreign Minister Manuel González said that this money will not go to the National Budget, because it will be used for the water supply emergency, and that the amount will be turned directly to the National Emergency Commission, which will work with the Presidential Commissioner Mariano Figueres on the reconstruction of the areas affected by the hurricane.

According to Solís, this trip had transcendental results.

The President also said that thanks to Costa Rica being consolidated as a global model of clean and renewable energy, investment agencies are interested in projects of high national priority.
