The host of the channel 13 program, Cooking with Aunt Florita (Cocinando con Tía Florita) says life goes on, but it was terrible to have her home violated.

The 87 year old Flora Sobrado Echandi was the victim of a home invasion on Saturday at 9pm, in Montes de Oca, San Pedro. According to the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ), five armed men forced bars and locks on the front door, and entered the home despite alarms and electric fencing. Reported stolen were ¢1 million ($2,000) in cash, and jewelry.

Echandi said that the assailants seemed to know in advance where to find valuables, and took photos of her home with their cell phones.

The assault happened a week after the death of her eldest son, who at age 66 was suffering from an illness.

Echandi thanked the police for their swift response, but complained that criminals should have no legal rights.
