Boyeros paraded through the center of San José

December 12, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Between 150 and 200 oxen yokes crossed the streets starting on Paseo Colón, through the Second Avenue and arrived to Plaza de la Democracia.

Dozens of people enjoyed the animal parade. The children were the ones who enjoyed it the most. There were also buffaloes, and even goats that stole the show.

The parade celebrates the beginning of the holidays in the capital. It was organized by the Asociación Boyera Costarricense, which had the support of the Municipality of San José, the Ministry of Culture and the Costa Rican Tourism Institute.

The parade was supposed to be held on the last Sunday of November; however, it had to be re-scheduled due to Hurricane Otto.
