Caja and Supen raise questions about sustainability of pension scheme

According to the superintendent of Pensions, Edgar Robles the social security system withdrew $54 million to pay pensions of nearly 200,000 people. The amount represents the shortage between current tax collections and payments made to beneficiaries. During the holiday period, Costa Ricans who receive social security benefits are entitled to an extra month of pay, as is also the case with workers.
