Caribbean suffered the effects of heavy rains and winds this weekend

June 24, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The instability caused by the end of tropical wave number 8 and the arrival of a new one scheduled for Sunday had an impact in several sectors of the country, mainly in the province of Limón.

According to the National Commission of Emergencies (CNE) during Saturday night and early Sunday, there were seven incidents, which were processed through the Municipal Emergency Committees.

In the case of Limón, there were reports of strong winds, downpours, and an electric storm in almost the entire region.

In addition, power service suspension was reported in several points, roofless houses in Cieneguita, and falling trees in Vizcaya.

The CNE also dealt with two flooding incidents in Pérez Zeledón and Coto Brus, three inspection requests, and a request for supplies in Desamparados, where two rolls of reinforced plastic were sent to deal with landslide situations evaluated by a geologist from the institution.

The National Meteorological Institute (INM) now expects tropical wave # 9 in the country. Rainfall with thunderstorms is expected in the Central Valley, North Zone, North Caribbean, and Central Valley (including the GAM), with estimated amounts between 5-10mm and maximum 20mm.

Similarly, moderate showers are expected in the South Pacific.
