September 26, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A cleanup day was conducted in one of the most polluted beaches in Costa Rica. Almost 300 volunteers managed to collect 3 tons of garbage in Guacalillo beach, Puntarenas.

The initiative, led by Coca-Cola System, Ocean Conservancy and Terra Nostra Association, made it possible collect all kinds of waste, which will be sent to a treatment plant.

Studies conducted by Terra Nostra association indicate that 80% of wastes reaching the sea and the beaches are from the Central Valley.

We need to raise public awareness regarding the need to protect the environment and make recycling a habit in our lifestyle,

declared Gustavo Guillén, representative from Coca Cola Company.

Fernando Mora, vice minister of Water, Seas, Coasts and Wetlands, attended the activity.
