Clothing smugglers captured in Peñas Blancas

November 1, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Last Friday, the Border Police prevented more than four million colones in clothing items brought in Nicaragua without paying taxes to enter the country illegally.

The officials examined a bus with Panamanian plate, which came from Nicaragua, and managed to find 24 bags belonging to 24 passengers, all of Panamanian nationality, who were transporting 2,494 pairs of tennis shoes, 461 pairs of sandals, 1,186 clothing items, 315 purses, 29 cases with 16 watches and glasses.

When asked, none of the passengers carried a single bill that would prove the due taxes and declarations to transit the national territory.

The merchandise was forwarded to Customs in Peñas Blancas.
