CNE reports 8 cantons affected by rains

May 28, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The rains of the last days caused damages in eight cantons of the country, where floods and landslides are reported.

According to the National Emergency Commission (CNE), two floods, six inspection requests and one landslide have been reported.

The affected cantons are: Golfito, La Unión, Limón, San Ramón, Puntarenas, Cartago, Desamparados and Santa Cruz.

At the moment the green alert is maintained in the Pacific slope and Central Valley. The rains are expected to continue due to a low pressure system that still maintains a presence in the country, as well as the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

Authorities are calling for caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to saturation of sewers, an increase in the flow of rivers, as well as in places prone to landslides.
