Coronado and Goicoechea are under green alert

September 23, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Due to the eruptive activity of Turrialba volcano, which is affecting the Great Metropolitan Area, the National Commission of Risk Prevention and Emergency Response (CNE) activated a green alert for Vásquez de Coronado and Goicoechea.

It is a preventive alert, so that in the event of any kind of risk by ash or gases, the local emergency committees will be ready to control the situation.

In Cartago and Jiménez, a green alert was also declared. Turrialba, Alvarado and Oreamuno cantons are still under yellow alert.

According to authorities from the CNE, reports and analysis from organizations, such as the National Seismological Network at the University of Costa Rica and OVSICORI, state that Turrialba volcanic activity is unstable and variable and it could continue indefinitely.
