Costa Rica has the worst roads in America

April 17, 2018 by Staff News Writer

According to the World Economic Forum that raises the “American Road Quality Ranking 2017-2018,” Costa Rican roads are worse than those in Paraguay and Haiti, a nation affected by one of the worst earthquakes of last decade.

This means that this country is affected very negatively in development, affecting the transport of goods and trade and the economy in general.

Nicaragua, on the other hand, is the fifth country with the best roads in Latin America and Central America and the seventh in all of America. Even El Salvador is better off on this issue than Costa Rica; ranking 10 out of 22 in the Western Hemisphere.

According to official data from the government of Nicaragua, that nation has 4 thousand 113 kilometers of paved streets, while a report by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport indicated that in 2017 there were only 2,456 kilometers of roads (48% of the total) in good condition in Costa Rica.

The road network of Costa Rica is 5,053 kilometers of asphalt or concrete.
