Deputy Minister’s spouse wins bid for ₡6 billion

May 24, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The company of the husband of deputy minister Patricia Cordero Madrigal won a public tender for the construction of a new university field for the National University. The contract is for 6,971 million colones, according to the Comptroller General of the Republic.

Juan José Castro appears as one of three legal representatives of Edificadora Centroamericana Rapiparedes. This company was awarded a public bid for a project called “Construction of the San Pablo Complex”.

Patricia Cordero Madrigal was appointed as Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Energy and Environment by the President of the Republic, Luis Guillermo Solís.

Madrigal belonged to the cooperative Coopesolidar, where she worked on environmental issues with the sister of President Viviene Solís Rivera, who participated in the discussion on the subject of shrimp fishing and whose presence “clouded” the negotiations.

Just before the appointment of his wife, Castro requested before the Comptroller General of the Republic the lifting of a prohibition to contract with the State and the comptroller approved the petition in a letter dated June 18th of that year.

The San Pablo Complex is the new university campus for the National University, which will be located precisely in the canton that bears the same name.
