Drivers are against some points of the special service reform

January 13, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The intention to reform some points of the decree related to special services such as transport of students and workers is bothering the bus drivers’ union.

The rules that regulate this activity haven’t been updated in the last 10 years. The Public Transport Council created a proposal for reform to open consultation. However, student transportation drivers are against the measure and they are threatening to demonstrate if necessary.

Student transportation drivers met last week to join forces in opposition to the reform.

The modification of the decree is almost complete, but some specific points annoy the transporters.

-Less-than-25-passenger buses could not provide services for more than 15 years. The current law allows them to circulate for 20 years.
-It eliminates the possibility of transporting workers and students at the same time. Vehicles would be required to use the plate of the service they provide.
-Subcontracting the service is prohibited.
-It forces student buses to be yellow.
-It does not clarify whether drivers will be able to provide special services on weekends, holidays and vacations.

The reform is in the public consultation stage. Transport drivers stated that they will do everything they can to prevent it from being approved.
