Drug mules now swallow money too

March 13, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The police authorities of Mexico and Colombia warned that now drug mules hired by traffickers not only swallow drugs but also dollars.

According to the newspapers El Universal de México and El Tiempo de Colombia, in just two months, 10 Colombians were caught with total of $ 500,000 from Madrid and Mexico City in their stomachs.

A young administrative assistant has the record for the biggest amount of swallowed dollars that have tried to enter the airport of El Dorado, in Colombia. Nearly 150 latex packages with a $73,500 were found in her stomach and private parts. She was arrested on January 20th.

Juan Carlos Buitrago, director of the Tax and Customs Police of Colombia, indicated that in a single flight they have detected up to 25 suspicious people, who can even transport $ 1 million.

In Costa Rica the mules leave the country with drugs in their stomachs or private parts in order to take them to other destinations, mainly Europe.

In June last year, an Italian man named Avarello was arrested with a load of 101 eggs of cocaine on his stomach. The nervous and suspicious attitude of the European caused the authorities to stop him, perform an X-ray and detect the drug.

Avarello, 54, entered Costa Rica on January 24th, 2017. When he was captured, at the airport, his destination was Madrid, Spain and later Italy.

By June 2017, and after the arrest of Avarella, a total of 17 mules had been arrested by the Drug Control Police.
