Fake dentists provide “care” to Costa Rican

August 27, 2018 by Staff News Writer

People who are not professionals in dentistry are providing care to Costa Rican patients from areas such as downtown Limón, Siquirres, and San José. The fake dentists perform procedures such as cleaning, orthodontic placement, dental prosthesis, among other services.

This was reported by the College of Dental Surgeons of Costa Rica (CCDCR) that alerted health authorities and the population in general via press release, because patients are exposed to serious risks in the hands of these people.

Erica Mora, prosecutor of the college, reminded the population that it is of utmost importance to check with them if the person who assists them them is registered there, since the General Health Law establishes that only professional people in dentistry are authorized to practice this profession.

The CCDCR has filed several criminal complaints in these cases, so the offenders are judged for the crime of illegal exercise of the profession.
