Two EBAIS could relieve health care demand in El Guarco

July 7, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Last week people brought down the doors of EBAIS Parque Industrial, in El Guarco seeking medical attention in a warm and dry location. This particular EBAIS is rumored to give the best quality attention.

The authorities know the altercation could have been avoided with two more EBAIS (Equipos Básicos de Atención Integral en Salud) in the area.

According to doctors from the health center, as closing time approaches, more people arrive and collapse the service.

Armando Villalobos, regional director of the Department of Health in El Guarco, said that about three years ago, the neighborhood “La Campiña” was set up without any coordination. Therefore, the population and the health care demand of the area increased.

It was decided that the new population should receive health care either in Cartago’s Health Department or in El Guarco’s Health Department. A later relocation study determined at least three new EBAIS were needed to meet the demand of the new population in El Guarco’s Health Department.”

However, only one of those three EBAIS is currently operative, while the needs of the other two are served by the other 13 existing EBAIS.
