Fed up with holes, residents plant banana trees in road of San Carlos

March 31, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Residents of San Carlos planted banana trees in the huge road holes in their community and they also invited the Municipality to the “Banana Fair” in an attempt to get them to visit the place.

This unusual complaint and demonstration by the residents of Tres Esquinas de La Fortuna and neighboring communities occurred on Wednesday afternoon.

According to those affected, it’s impossible to drive these streets and faced with such reality, the neighbors rushed to plant a dozen banana trees.

For being a cantonal street, its repair corresponds to the local government of San Carlos, which indicated that although the beginning of the paving works was scheduled for Monday, it will no longer be done because the street is too deteriorated.

They said they will visit the area on Thursday to determine what should be done there. If there are no delays, work could start before the end of April.

The road is used daily by hundreds of drivers as well as by heavy vehicles that transport export goods.

The route in bad condition is about 2.5 kilometers long and it connects the communities of Tres Esquinas de La Fortuna with El Carmen de Peñas Blancas de San Ramón.

After closing the bridge over Peñas Blancas River in Peñas Blancas de San Ramón for repair, this route planted with bananas is one of the alternate routes for the thousands of users who must move between the tourist route 702 that communicates San Ramón with Fortuna.
