Flower sellers did not have a good business day on Mother’s Day

August 16, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Flower sellers were hoping to have a good business day, however, during these days sales were weak. They hoped that the demand would rise on Monday, but people only bought small bouquets and arrangements, so sellers won’t be able to recover their investment.

Marineth Alpízar, who has been selling flowers for 15 years on Central Avenue, said they had the hopes placed on Monday morning. However, people decided to go for a walk and to have dinner with their mothers and forgot to buy flowers.

On Saturday we sold a little more, but what most people bought were the littlest arrangements. This year, they are more careful about spending their money,”

said the woman.

Pablo Retana Urbina, from the Eventos y Floristería Sebastián in Guadalupe, said that sales are very bad.

Today (was bad) perhaps because it followed a long weekend. There is no one in the streets, like on a Good Friday. People took the opportunity to go for a walk. Most people, considering the economic situation prefer not to spend and save,”

said Urbina.

Arrangements prices exceed eight thousand colones and bouquets start on 2500 colones.
