Former Presidents: “it’s time to act firmly” regarding Venezuela

October 26, 2016 by Staff News Writer

With a direct letter, former Costa Rican Presidents are asking President Luis Guillermo Solís to take firm actions, through the use of diplomatic tools available, regarding the situation in Venezuela.

It is time to act firmly with the instruments to apply the Inter-American Democratic Chart,”

said the former Presidents, who ask the Government of Costa Rica to promote the defense of Venezuelan democracy in the Organization of American States (OAS).

The content of the letter states that

the situation has overflowed and requires intense hemispheric diplomatic action to achieve a peaceful solution to restore democracy in Venezuela.”

On October 22nd, Costa Rica and other Latin American countries came together to express their concern about the recent events that occurred in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to postpone the collection process of 20% of the population required to activate the referendum.

From that day to date, the situation has further muddied, and following the decision of the Congress to approve a mechanism of impeachment against Nicolás Maduro, the latter is summoning the Civil Defense and talking about a “parliamentary coup”.
