Fuel leakage in Siquirres

September 3, 2017 by Staff News Writer

An important fuel leak was reported on Sunday morning in a pipeline of the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE), in the Free Hold sector of Siquirres, parallel to route 32.

According to reports by the Fire Department, they received the alert before 8:00 a.m. and now they are trying to fix the situation. The institution coordinates efforts with the Ministry of Health, to analyze the possible implications of the situation.

According to initial information the spilled liquid is Jet fuel A1, which is used for aircraft.

Firefighters secured the scene and are working to prevent fuel from reaching sources of water. At this time it is not certain if there is contamination, nor is it clear why this happened.

As shown in the image, the hole in the pipeline is significant, so the authorities will investigate what happened.
