Fuel prices to drop on Thursday

January 9, 2019 by Staff News Writer

On Wednesday, the official newspaper La Gaceta published a sharp reduction in the price of fuel, so it will be enforced as of Thursday at midnight.

Super gasoline will cost 596 colones per liter (41¢ reduction), regular gas 581 colones (¢45 reduction), while diesel will be 534 colones (¢53 reduction).

The reduction in prices is due to a higher production of gasoline in the North American market, increasing inventory levels with the subsequent reduction in the refining margin. As a result, there is a decrease in the price of finished fuels imported by Costa Rica.

On the other hand, in the national market, the decrease recorded in the exchange rate at the end of last year contributed to a greater reduction in the prices of finished products.
