Government assisted almost 30 families in poverty affected by rains

June 14, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Joint Institute of Social Assistance (IMAS) maintains surveillance operations to assist families in poverty who are affected by the rains. Through the local emergency committees, the authorities assured that they will invest the necessary resources.

On Wednesday, the National Emergency Commission (CNE) reported more than 100 incidents due to heavy rains in eight cantons nationwide, of which 84 are floods. On Thursday, the IMAS said that the incidents will not cause any damage to housing, especially in the Metropolitan Area, the Central Pacific, and the Chorotega Region.

Aguas Zarcas evaluated 15 families, of which only three had significant losses, for which ¢2 million were invested, and in Guatuso five more families were assisted, with an investment of ¢1,800,000 , according to the IMAS report.

In addition, 10 families from La Fortuna and five more from Guatuso were evaluated. And in Heredia, three families were assisted with an investment of just over ¢2 million.

Law No. 8488, National Law on Emergencies and Risk Prevention regulates institutional actions to reduce the social, economic, and environmental consequences induced by natural and entropic risk factors; as well as the extraordinary activity that the State must carry out in case of emergency,”

explained the IMAS.
