Honduran opposition calls for election annulment over alleged fraud

December 10, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Honduran parties or bidders formally asked to annul the recent elections by claiming that they were fraudulent, in a new chapter of the political crisis that has plunged the country into chaos.

The leftist Alliance of Opposition Against the Dictatorship, which nominated television presenter Salvador Nasralla for president, stated on Friday night before the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) that there was “an alteration due to fraud in the ballot papers” to ensure the reelection of President Juan Orlando Hernández.

In turn, the head of business of the US embassy in Honduras, Heide Fulton, arrived at the headquarters of the TSE to say that her government supports the conclusion of the process in a credible and transparent manner that reflects the will of the Honduran people.

The OAS observation mission suggested recounting the votes to make the process transparent.
