Last year, 30 drivers were fined with 51,772 colones for driving vehicles on some of the country’s beaches. If you are caught doing the same thing, you will have to pay 51,317 colones.
Mario Calderón, director of Traffic Police, issued a warning to people traveling to the beaches during this summer season, specially before the start of classes.
We cannot monitor all beaches all the time, but we always set instructions to monitor this behavior. More than a fine, the driver must be aware of the high risk of entering an ATV, a motorcycle or a car to the beach: people are lying on the sand, children are playing, there are even people with earphones or sleeping while they sunbathe,
declared the official.
Calderón also stressed that only with a few exceptions, it is allowed to transit on the beaches, as is the case of emergency vehicles.
To avoid tragedies, it is essential that people who are enjoying the beach file the complaint immediately, via 9-1-1, requesting the presence of Traffic Police or even the Public Force.
