Justice Department closes the old maximum security area in La Reforma center

August 23, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Minister of Justice and Peace, María Cecilia Sánchez, ordered to permanently close the F area (Old Maximun Security) of La Reforma Center.

A place like that is completely inadequate, unhealthy, maddening. It is my duty to close it, for many reasons, especially because it is against human dignity”

said the Minister.

The current administration found people locked up there for 23 hours a day, in small, dark cells without enough ventilation.

The Ministry’s Department of Architecture is working on the designs for remodeling the space and changing it into a place of opportunities for the population.

This place worked for many years as the maximum security area of La Reforma, until a new facility (E area) was built in 2005.

Since then, F area was temporarily used for people with coexistence problems that could not remain in other areas.
