Former president Laura Chinchilla Miranda (2010-2014) accused Carlos Alvarado’s government of “washing its hands” in the midst of the country’s economic and fiscal discussion.
The former ruler refuted a publication of the Presidency in Twitter. The government referred to the “bitter lessons” of the fiscal crisis that hit the country in the 80s and said that the future of the country is now in the hands of legislators.
Chinchilla believes these remarks were wrong and reckless,
because in our presidential system, the Executive is obliged to take control of negotiations of interest. This position is reckless and sounds like “hand washing,”
said Chinchilla.
The criticism came a few hours after the Presidency appealed to the country’s former presidents so that, through videos, they support the project for more taxes.
If we do not solve the problem of public debt, interest will increase, in which case those who pay for home loans, car loans, and personal loans will be paying more,”
warned Chinchilla in the video promoted by the government.
