Legislator accuses the Government of abandoning Crucitas

September 12, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Legislator and presidential candidate of Frente Amplio, Edgardo Araya, accused the government of abandoning the Crucitas area, in Cutris de San Carlos, where they tried to establish the failed open-pit gold mining project.

He also denounced the social and environmental impact in the area caused “by the neglect of the State that never took our proposals for the area seriously.”

Araya proposed on Monday to create “a productive and academic hub ” for the Crucitas area.

We propose that the area be once and for all a priority for the government, and using the money that the State has to pay for the environmental damage (more than $7 million) to acquire the farm from the mining company to build a Research and Inter-University Training Center,”

added Araya.

According to the legislator, the productive pole would be achieved by providing security in the area and strengthening investment in education, housing and infrastructure.

In 2010, the Administrative Litigation Court ordered the annulment of the concession to the mining company to investigate the case.
