Legislator files appeal against fuel price increases

April 28, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On Thursday, Mario Redondo, a legislator from the Christian Democrat Alliance (ADC), filed an appeal to the Constitutional Chamber against the increase in fuel prices sought by the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE).

According to Redondo, the date set for the hearing with ARESEP is unreasonable and disproportionate because it does not guarantee the 30 calendar days between the request and the date of the hearing.

The legislator added that this prevents the proper participation of citizens in the process of rate adjustment and makes it impossible to access the information in the file, and therefore, they cannot prepare adequate opposition to the increase.

The prices requested by RECOPE would mean an increase of ¢21 (3.5%) in super gasoline, ¢23 (4.0%) in gasoline plus 91 and a reduction of ¢6 (1.3%) in diesel.
