Legislator: “Friends of Palestine promote violent demonstrations in Costa Rica”

March 28, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On Monday, legislator Sandra Piszk, from the National Liberation Party (PLN), denounced that supporters of Palestina in Costa Rica are promoting violent demonstrations in the country, although fortunately they have not succeed.

Piszk gave this statement when justifying her negative vote for the approval on second reading of an agreement for cooperation between Costa Rica and Palestine.

The agreement was voted with 29 votes in favor and 11 against.

According to Piszk, these groups have made calls to attend religious activities

with their faces covered, with hordes, with things that are not typical of Costa Rica and then, being a movement that seeks to achieve international followers, I think Costa Ricans must establish relations with those countries that share the values of democracy, freedom and respect, and not with countries that not only do not respect them, but also promote international disrespect.”

The lawmaker referred to a poster entitled “Free Palestine” calling to demonstrate against the State of Israel in front of the Crown Plaza Hotel on February 4th.

Piszk voted against the agreement with Palestine because, in her opinion, it does not favor Costa Rica.

The woman explained that she also did not support it because of the statements made permanently by the Hamas group established in Palestine, which do not believe in the solution of two states and continue to speak about the destruction of the State of Israel.

The main objective of the agreement is the promotion of technical, economic, scientific and cultural cooperation between the parties, through the development and implementation of specific programs and projects in areas of common interest.
