Legislator presents project to defend policyholders

December 6, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Legislator Mario Redondo, from the Christian Democratic Alliance, introduced a bill that seeks to defend users of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS).

According to the legislator, the proposal seeks to give a voice to policyholders because it would place a representative of the health boards and a representative from other policyholders’ associations on the board of the CCSS.

The appointment of the health services general auditor will also be modified, since they would not be chosen by the Minister of Health, but by the Council of General Audit of Health Services.

It also includes policyholders’ representatives in the Council of General Audit of Health Services.

Redondo added that this strengthens hospitals and clinics’ service comptrollers, and establishes more stringent criteria for the appointment of the service comptroller.

We must ensure that policyholders are provided quality services, that they are well treated and that their claims are properly addressed,”

said Redondo.
