Legislators observed 1 minute silence for hurricane victims

November 30, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On Tuesday afternoon, members of the Legislative Assembly observed a minute of silence for the deceased and missing people due to Hurricane Otto last week.

Unanimously, the legislators approved two motions to that effect and sent their condolences to the families.

In addition, they voted for a proposal to pay tribute to the Red Cross, the National Emergency Commission (CNE), the National Meteorological Institute, the Public Force and the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) for the efforts during the emergency.

Frente Amplio’s congresswoman, Suray Carillo, took the opportunity to ask for no further mistakes in emergency handling.

The legislator from Citizen Action Party (PAC), Franklin Corella, expressed his solidarity with those affected.

The hurricane caused at least 10 deaths, missing people and profound devastation in different regions of the country, mainly in the canton of Upala.

The legislatos also observed a minute of silence for those killed and affected by fire in the León XIII citadel, which left dozens of families homeless last Sunday.
