Legislature receives global agreement to fight climate change

July 8, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Paris Agreement, a global initiative against climate change, was admitted on Thursday in the Legislature.

The project was presented to interim President of Congress, José Alberto Alfaro, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Manuel González, the Minister of Environment and Energy, Edgar Gutiérrez.

This is a legal instrument signed in December 2015 by 195 countries in the French capital, aiming to take actions to combat climate change in each nation.

González explained that the agreement will be in force when ratified by 55 States.
Gutiérrez explained that the local importance of the agreement is that it establishes provisions to speed carbon neutrality.

Alfaro, on the other hand, said that the initiative will be dispensed of formalities to try and approve it in August.
