Message to Gonzalo Ramírez? Solís spoke about LGBTI rights

May 4, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The arrival of Gonzalo Ramírez to the presidency of the Legislative Assembly caused criticism for the future of projects on human rights, gender equity, and recognition of the rights of same sex couples, due to the conservative thought of the legislator, who is an evangelical pastor and states that the values and traditions he has ingrained will not change.

On Wednesday, during his presentation in the Assembly Plenary, the President of the Republic spoke about the achievements of the Government in favor of LGBTI rights.

Solís spoke of what they have achieved in different institutions, as well as the new regulation of the Civil Service Statute to defend and protect access to public services for this population.

The INA and the MEP issued guidelines recognizing gender identity, which allows the delivery of the title of the academic degree with the name of the person’s choice,”

said the president in his speech.

In addition, he said that the Joint Institute of Social Assistance has begun to register same-sex couples within their system, facilitating the recognition of their diversity.

Several LGBTI groups in the country asked for a public apology from the legislator Ramírez for his constant homophobic and misogynist statements. Ramírez said he has no reason to apologize to these groups.
