Minister gives in and modifies decree

July 1, 2016 by Staff News Writer

After a protest leaded by tour operators, tourism minister, Mauricio Ventura, was forced to yield to the pressure of carriers and industry representatives that supervise issues related to the tourism sector.

The discomfort was generated by a decree that modified vehicles’ service life. They have operating permissions in the country.

Walter Ramírez, who has worked on tours for 12 years declared:

We had a 20-year permission to operate and minister Ventura wanted to reduce it to 10 years. It is not possible. I go to America once a year, I go on tour and people who offer the service do not have quality vehicles and the quality service we do, they just speak English. Here we have people who speak many languages, people who use new cars. Who will buy a new car every 10 years? We can’t accept it!

Ventura modified the decree and established a 15-year service life for vehicles.
Both parts were satisfied with the decree and they agreed to have discussion sessions in order to avoid conflicts.
