Minor caught in a boat with 30 thousand dollars in cash

October 29, 2018 by Staff News Writer

A man was arrested when he carried more than 30 thousand dollars in cash. The subject was caught in Bahía Salinas de La Cruz, Guanacaste.

The arrest was made by the National Coast Guard Service, who intercepted the vessel that came from Nicaragua. The event took place last Friday.

Near Ecoplaya hotel, the officers noticed a boat approaching the shore at a very low speed, so they waited for it on the beach with the patrol lights on. Shortly after, a subject descended from the boat and began to approach the mobile unit, but when he noticed it was a police vehicle, he tried to flee,”

explained the Ministry of Security.

The authorities identified the suspect as a 16-year-old undocumented teenager, who said he was from San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.

The teenager had a backpack with the money. Upon seeing the arrest on the beach, the boat’s operators fled to Nicaraguan waters.

The child is suspect of the crime of money laundering.
