More than 50 people were leading drug business in Zona Norte

November 10, 2017 by Staff News Writer

In less than a month, the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) has dismantled two organizations linked to drug trafficking that operated in the Northern Zone, between San Carlos and Los Chiles.

This Thursday, they conducted several raids in Ciudad Quesada, Limón and Sarapiquí, to dismantle a gang linked to drug trafficking in the area, in which 26 people are involved.

Walter Espinoza, director of the OIJ, said that Thursday’s operations are linked to those carried out more than two weeks ago in Los Chiles, where a network led by brothers was dismantled.

On October 24th, 30 people were arrested for being members of a gang run by the Ramos Zúñiga brothers, who got the drug from Limón and distributed it throughout the Northern Zone.

According to the judicial investigations, every two weeks the subjects acquired up to 10 million colones in marijuana and cocaine from another organization located in Batán and Búfalo, in Limón. However, they also sold crack.

The profits received by the group were handled exclusively by the leader, who later paid salaries to his collaborators.
