Mosquitos invade Guanacaste

July 1, 2016 by Staff News Writer

According to Suray Carrillo, member from Frente amplio, there is a plague of mosquitos affecting Guanacaste’s livestock and causing millions in losses. She affirmed that the impact of these insects has come to such an extent that they have killed seven deers.

Mosquitos are highly affecting Tempisque communities in Guanacaste.

This problem mainly arises for the over-exploitation of Tempisque River, which is practically dried. This causes that only decomposition matter flows through the river bed. It is the perfect environment for mosquitos to grow,

declared the legislator.

According to Carrillo, she has been warning about the alarming number of mosquitos in the area since January, 2016, when she mentioned the problem in the negotiating tables promoted by the government.

Carrillo stated that minister of environment, Edgar Espelette, promised to issue a decree before the celebration of the Anexión del Partido de Nicoya, on July, 25th. By doing this, the Ministry of Health, the National Emergency Commission and other institutions may be part of the solution.
